Keyboard Lessons at The Gardens School

Hello Parents,

Thanks for your enquiry! Please have a look at the following details and the T&Cs.

If you’re happy to enrol, sign up at https://musiqhub.co.nz/pages/tutors/Barry_Lee. We’ll place registered students on a first-come, first-served basis. Now, let me walk you through some frequently asked questions:

Group Lesson Fees

The tuition fee is $24 per lesson or $240 per term (GST inclusive), based on a 10-week term. The exact amount varies depending on the number of weeks. Additionally, there’s a $38 fee (GST inclusive) for Book One.

Lesson Duration

Each group lesson lasts for half an hour.

Class Size

Each lesson typically has two to four children.

Lesson Schedule and Location

Lessons take place on Wednesdays throughout school hours. Students will be sent to the Green Room for their lesson at their time.

Payment and Registration Process

After signing up at https://musiqhub.co.nz/pages/tutors/Barry_Lee and if a spot is available, you’ll receive an invoice via email. Your spot is confirmed once we receive your payment.

Keyboard/Piano Requirements

Keyboards are provided during lessons, but students should have access to a keyboard/piano at home for practice. If you don’t have one, consider shopping at the MusiqHub Online Store for keyboards. Rentals aren’t available, as keyboards are generally not expensive. Some other shops may offer lay-by or installment deals.

Missed Lessons and Teacher Absences

Please see the terms and conditions regarding missed lessons for keyboard classes:

2.1 Missed Lessons: No refund will be given where a lesson is missed. Due to timetabling complexities, the teacher is not obligated to offer catch-up lessons.

2.2 Teacher Absence: If the teacher is unavailable to give any scheduled lesson (e.g., due to sickness), that fee will be carried forward and credited to the next term.

In short, we have a “use-it-or-lose-it” lesson policy.

Teaching Approach and Learning Outcomes

We follow a systematic ‘Kiwi-made’ syllabus to build a solid foundation on technique and music reading. There we use a variety of short songs from the books, some well-known and others designed for developing technique. Students learn to operate their hands independently and agilely, improving hand-eye coordination and multitasking skills in the process.

Occasionally, we teach tunes outside the book (e.g., movie themes, Disney songs) to inspire students when they’re ready.

Introducing the Teacher

I’d like to introduce Julianne Wong, the new main teacher, as I’ve recently moved to focus on management (but may still teach occasionally). Julianne is a highly qualified musician, holding an ABRSM Grade 8 Piano qualification and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Auckland. With over 6 years of teaching experience and 5 years leading worship at church and directing a band, Julianne’s passion for music will inspire and motivate your children to embrace the keyboard and enjoy their musical journey!

I appreciate you taking the time to read this. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards,

Barry Lee
